A Simple Guide To Rugs In The Bedroom

I love rugs and mats, and sometimes I can tend to bring home too many smaller sized ones just because I love their colour or pattern. That can be a problem.

Because a good rug is wonderful to anchor furniture in a room or divide a large space into two separate living areas, but too many small rugs and mats scattered all around look cluttery.

And in a bedroom, small rugs can actually be a tripping hazard as well when we get up in the middle of the night still half asleep.

So for the bedroom, one large rug is preferable. And if you can’t swing that, you should stick to two smaller ones max - one on each side of the bed.

SIZING A RUG FOR THE BEDROOM

One large rug that sits under the bottom two-thirds of your bed and allows room on each side for you to step on is optimal. It anchors the bed nicely so that it's pleasing to the eye and automatically inspires a feeling of warmth and serenity.

Plus, it's practical since it keeps your tootsies from touching the cold floor first thing in the morning, so choose one that's soft and comforting underfoot.

  • Twin bed = 5x8 rug

  • Queen bed = 6x9 rug

  • King bed = 8x10 rug

But don't worry too much about it; if you can't get a large enough rug, simply put two small 2x3 mats on each side of the bed. I suggest NOT putting another at the foot of the bed - it's too cluttery.

There are no hard and fast rules here - just go with what's calming to your senses, and practical for keeping you cozy and safe.

Here my picks for amazing rugs available online that would look great in a bedroom. Order one and cozy up!
